Town end poor run with dramatic late strike

A last-minute penalty from Simon Cox gave Town the result of the weekend in League One.

 

Town's in-form striker slotting home after the referee ajudged that Craig Easton had been pulled back when all set to score himself.

 

Billy Paynter having earlier given Swindon the lead, after being unselfishly set up by Cox just after half-time.

 

Only a goalkeeping error from Phil Smith - in for Peter Brezovan - had allowed MK Dons to equalise, when Jude Stirling bundled the ball in from a corner.

 

"We were the better team overall and we deserved it,"  Town manager Maurice Malpas commented, clearly relieved at the result, which ended a run of three consecutive defeats.

 

"I was particulary pleased with the back four. We held strong and that's a good sign for the future." 

 

Town move up to 10th.
